On a bright Sunday morning, two hundred walkers and one hundred and forty dogs gathered by the river for our sponsored dog walk. There were greyhounds in jumpers, a three-legged terrier who led most of the way, and one Great Dane who sat down halfway round and had to be persuaded to carry on.
Every step counted
Between entry fees and sponsorship, the walkers raised £12,600 for the Voriskov shelter appeal. That money goes towards buying the land next to the shelter, so its dogs finally have a safe, fenced space to run off the lead.
The water stations ran out of dog treats twice, and every dog who finished went home with a blue and yellow bandana.
