The story
The Friend shelter in Ukraine has kept its doors open through the war. Hundreds of dogs and cats live there: animals left behind when families fled, animals pulled from bombed-out buildings, and animals found wandering alone through villages that are now empty.
The people who run it have stayed too. They work through power cuts, shelling and freezing winters, often with very little sleep and even less money.
What the shelter needs
Food is the biggest daily cost. Feeding hundreds of animals takes tonnes of dry food every month, and prices have risen sharply since the war began. On top of that the shelter needs veterinary medicine, vaccinations, fuel for generators, and materials to repair kennels damaged by blasts or by the cold.
Each winter brings the same fear: whether there will be enough heating and enough food to get every animal through to spring.
Your donation saves lives
Money raised through this fundraiser is sent to the shelter regularly and spent on food, vet care and essential repairs. It keeps animals alive, and it lets the people caring for them keep going. Please stand with the Friend shelter and the animals who depend on it.
