The story
Senior dogs are the ones people walk past. They wait in shelter kennels for months, sometimes years, while younger dogs and puppies go to new homes within weeks. Many of them were family pets for a whole lifetime, until an owner died, moved into care, or simply gave them up.
Yet older dogs often make the most wonderful companions. They are calm, they are usually house-trained, and they are deeply grateful for a soft bed and a quiet walk.
Why adoptions stall
The biggest barrier is cost. A senior dog may need regular blood tests, medicine for its heart, joints or thyroid, dental treatment or a special diet. Many people who would love to adopt an older dog worry that they simply cannot afford its care.
How this fundraiser helps
This fundraiser helps cover the veterinary costs of senior dogs adopted from partner shelters, so that families can say yes without worrying about money. It also pays for check-ups and treatment before adoption, so every dog leaves the shelter as healthy and comfortable as possible.
With your help, more older dogs can spend their final years where they belong: in a home, with people who love them.
