The story
When floodwater swept through a Slovak animal shelter, staff and volunteers waded through rising water to carry dogs out of their kennels one by one. Every animal was saved, but the shelter itself was badly damaged and the site was no longer safe to use.
The shelter had to start again somewhere new, on higher ground, where the next flood could not reach it.
Building again
The new site needed everything: kennels, fencing, drainage and shelter from the weather. This fundraiser was set up to pay for the construction of new kennels, so the rescued dogs could move out of temporary foster homes and makeshift enclosures into proper, permanent housing.
Where things stand
The fundraiser has now ended. The money raised paid for the first kennels at the new location, and the dogs have begun moving in. Building work will continue as funds allow. Thank you to everyone who helped the shelter get back on its feet after the flood.
